Kids Corner in the Family Court of Australia

November 20, 2025

The Family Court have revamped their Kids Corner section of their website. The Kids Corner section is designed for children who need clear, unbiased information about parenting proceedings.

Children who are involved in parenting proceedings are often asked to attend on an Independent Children’s Lawyer or a family report writer or expert.  No matter their age, they are often confused, and parents are sometimes at a loss on how to answer their questions like:

What is happening? Who is making the decisions? and why am I talking on this person?

The Kids Corner has short videos which are most informative and explain what a family expert does and what happens if a Judge has to make a decision. It makes it clear that the family expert or the children’s lawyer are there to provide information to the Court on how the family operates. They may recommend a change in arrangements so the children can see more of each parent, or they might even suggest that the current arrangement is best for the welfare and development of the children.

This is a valuable resource for parents. Watching these videos with your child can be an unbiased way to help them understand the process and why these people are involved. It reassures children that the goal is to create arrangements that allow them to:

  • Spend time with both parents
  • Enjoy a balanced routine
  • See friends and siblings
  • Attend birthday parties
  • Relax and thrive in their newly designed family arrangements

You can access the Kids Corner section on the Family Court website Welcome to Kids’ Corner! | Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia
